Ebooks are not automatically accessible. Learning how to design and publish inclusive content as a standard part of the workflow makes great business sense. Being aware of how content and design may create barriers to reading also helps us generate new ideas and designs. It highlights opportunities to create solutions with utility and elegance that will create better books for everyone.

I have collaborated on braille editions, audiobooks, accessible reading lists, publisher certification projects, in addition to teaching developers and publisher staff about accessibility.

We are at an accessible publishing tipping point. The Marrakesh Treaty combined with the EU Accessibility Act requiring all commercial ebooks to meet strict accessibility guidelines by 2025 are likely to force change at a corporate level. The business case is, in my opinion, pretty clear. Publish accessibly and reap the rewards. Would you like to know how to level up your accessibility footprint? Please be in touch.
